Finding a Position

LinkedIn!- Connect with recruiters and reach out to real people who work at the companies you are interested in. If you see a 2nd-degree connection, ask one of your 1sts for an introduction! Turn on job alerts!

Indeed - The 'God' of job postings. Most other job sites are simply copy/paste postings from Indeed. Turn on job alerts!

GJC.org

One of the most visited GIS/RS jobs site on the Internet. Started in 1992, the GJC has helped thousands of GIS/RS professionals find positions. With hundreds of positions in our database, the GJC has resources for both employers and those seeking jobs.

governmentjobs.com - Great for finding local and national government positions.

USAjobs - Official government job focused on federal government jobs.

Non-verbals/Appearance

https://www.photofeeler.com/ - See how your profile photo rates in terms of ‘smart’, ‘trustworthy’, and ‘influential’

What the Body is saying - Navaro [Book] - Great book on non-verbals from an ex-FBI agent whose responsibility was to find liars.

Researching a Company

Glassdoor - The ‘Yelp’ of companies. I always check GD for employee reviews before applying to a company.

Crunchbase - Discover lots of info, including financials, acquisitions, news articles, and more!

Better Business Bureau

BBB’s mission is to be the leader in advancing marketplace trust. We do this by

Setting standards for marketplace trust

Encouraging and supporting best practices by engaging with and educating consumers and businesses

Celebrating marketplace role models

Calling out and addressing substandard marketplace behavior

Creating a community of trustworthy businesses and charities

SEC documents (Uber example) - For public companies, check out their S-1/A SEC filing containing a volume of information. The SEC requires IPOs to provide documents publically to educate potential investors on how a company intends to grow and make money. Visit the last page of ‘documents’, for the S-1/A containing a bundle of company info.

Cover Letters and Resumes

Reddit Cover Letters - Post your cover letter for general style and formatting critique.

Reddit Resumes - Post your resume for general style and formatting critique.

Reddit GIS - Post a resume for industry-specific advice.

My favorite guide on writing cover letters

Cover Tuner - Awesome tool for automatic cover letter analysis. Created by a Redditor!

Final Draft Resumes - I bought their resume package when I started; It was worth every penny. We went through several revisions until settling on a final draft.

HRnasty - Weird name, but great job-hunting tips

MS Word Tip - If you’re using Microsoft Word to create your resume, try hitting the keys Cntrl+Shift+8 to see all the formatting marks and hidden characters. You'll likely find inconsistencies!

Interviewing

InterviewThis (GitHub Repo) - Great list of questions to ask in an interview (as an applicant)

TheBalanceCareers Interview QsA very comprehensive guide for interviewing from the applicant's perspective.

How to practice for an interview with Chat GPT

LinkedIn

Resume Worded - They have a free LinkedIn reviewer tool that gives valuable advice. Might pay for the entire service in the future.

What did I miss?
